CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Floriande Courfeyrac
Age: 25
Canon: Les Miserables

Personality: The main description we are given for Courfeyrac in his canon is ‘see Tholomyes.’ Which doesn’t help much, considering Tholomyes was an asshole who left his pregnant girlfriend, but it does tell us a little. Courfeyrac was born into a noble family, but absolutely hates being connected to them. He even changed his last name (a little) in order to distance himself more from them. At first glance, Courfeyrac appears to be one of those spoiled rich young students everyone loves to hate. Kind of like today’s version of a bro, except nicer. He gives off (or pretends to give off) the impression that he is only involved with the friends of the ABC because it gives him a chance to be all rebellious and cool, and also so he can hit on lots of ladies. He’s used to not really wanting for anything, being a ‘de’ Courfeyrac means that he is the son of a minor noble, and thus pretty well-off. Presumably, his parents are still paying for his schooling despite all his antics, so he's pretty well set in life. Maybe he has a very slight superiority complex, but he’s mostly grown out of that thanks to lots of witty put-downs from his friends. He can certainly put on a good show of being a snobby noble, when he’s not surrounded by his revolutionary buddies.
In actuality, though, Courfeyrac is one of the best friends a guy could have. He serves as the center of the group of friends in l’ABC, radiating love and warmth and friendliness where others (such as Combeferre and Enjolras) cannot. People just want to hang out around Courfeyrac, and he’s perfectly okay with that; being a bit of an attention whore has its benefits. He has a soft heart, and tends to end up bringing home strays to stay with him in his little room. One in particular is his best friend, Marius, whom he and another friend swept off the street one day; since Marius had nowhere else to go. He can also be extremely intelligent when he wants to be; being able to hold his own against Combeferre in a political argument is not for the unintelligent! Around his friends --which is where we see him, mostly, he can be found debating, drinking, telling horrible jokes and generally being the life of the party. Some of these terrible jokes happen to involve following his friends to play pranks on them, or just generally because he's extremely curious about their whereabouts.
Courfeyrac's big-heartedness also extends to the people of France and its government. Like his friends, he cannot bear to see the plight of the poor and starving in Paris, and so he is essentially the third-in-command of their little cabal. Where Enjolras and Combeferre lead with passion and intelligence, respectively, he leads with love. He is one of the first in line on the way to the barricades and helps keep the group together during their worst times at the barricades; serving as a mood-lightener and loyal and staunch companion. He takes all their actions at the barricade in stride, even managing to tell a few jokes before he gets blown apart by a cannon. He does actually take their crusade seriously, it's just that he is the kind of guy who never seems to be serious about anything, unless you know him well. He is certainly used to the finer things in life but also aware of the poverty and governmental issues in Paris; and definitely loyal and courageous enough to give his life for a better future.
